Why Fireweed and Calendula Keep Showing Up in My Formulas

Fireweed and Calendula: Wild, Grown, and Here for a Reason
Fireweed got my attention first.
You can’t really miss it in an Alaska summer. It shows up bright, bold, and everywhere — along roadsides, trails, open ground, and places that have had to start over. It has that wild Alaska attitude I love: beautiful, but not delicate.
Calendula was different.
I didn’t find it growing wild outside my door. I chose to grow it myself. I wanted something steady, useful, and proven — a botanical that has earned its place in skin care for a reason.
Both ended up in my formulas because they make sense.
Fireweed brings the wild side of Alaska into the formula. It is known for antioxidant-rich compounds and skin-conditioning support, which makes it a strong fit for products made for skin that feels dry, dull, or thrown off.
Calendula brings a different kind of support. It is one of those classic skin-comfort botanicals that does not need a dramatic introduction. It has been used for generations because it is gentle, useful, and dependable in formulas made for skin that needs a little backup.
That combination matters to me, and that’s why you’ll find fireweed and calendula in just about everything I make.
