Our Story

Well, This Wasn't the Plan.

I'm Sharon, the founder and formulator behind Wild Alaska Skincare. And I've never been particularly good at accepting “that's just the way it is” as an answer.

In 2021, my husband and I sold most of what we owned, packed up thirty years of life, and headed from Louisiana to Alaska. In February. Because apparently moving 4,000 miles wasn't quite enough of an adventure, we also managed to wreck in a Canadian blizzard and spend twelve hours stranded in 20-below weather.

Welcome to our next chapter!

Alaska was everything I'd hoped for. My skin, however, wasn't nearly as impressed. Between the climate and menopause, it became dry, dull, and developed a texture that drove me absolutely crazy. I tried expensive skincare, drugstore skincare, even Botox. The Botox helped with the wrinkles, but the rest of my skin was still a mess.

I wasn't trying to look 25 again. I've had a hell of a life, and I plan on having a hell of a lot more of it. I just wanted my skin to look and feel good along for the ride.

The Book That Started Something Big

About six months into our new life in Alaska, life threw us a curveball nobody could have prepared for. My husband, an Alaska State Trooper, was shot five times in the line of duty.

What followed were months of hospital stays, surgeries, and recovery. During those long days at the hospital, I finally picked up The Boreal Herbal, a book a friend had given me when we first moved to Alaska.

I had no idea what that book was about to start.

What began as something to read during those long hospital days turned into a fascination with the plants growing all around me. Fireweed, yarrow, red clover—I started seeing Alaska in a completely different way.

I'd already been experimenting with soapmaking, but now I wanted to know more. I started gathering wild botanicals, growing calendula in my greenhouse, and studying cosmetic formulation. And that's where I really found my passion.

I wanted to understand the science behind skincare, what ingredients actually do, and how to put them together into products that deliver more than a good story on a label.

There was a lot of research, plenty of experimenting, and more than a few batches that didn't go according to plan. But eventually, I was making products I loved using. Friends and family wanted them, too. Then customers at local markets started coming back for more.

And somewhere in all of that, Wild Alaska Skincare became a real business.

Alaska Is Just the Beginning.

Today, Wild Alaska has grown into a collection of face care, body care, body bars, and bath products. I still gather botanicals, grow my own calendula, and collect glacier silt by hand. I combine those remarkable Alaska ingredients with carefully chosen modern actives, because creating a great formula is about understanding what works, not following the latest skincare trend.

I'm particular about my products. I want the textures to feel beautiful, the formulas to have a purpose, and the experience to be something you look forward to. Whether it's a hydrating serum, a rich body butter, or a body bar, every product gets that same attention.

And I've got big plans. What began as a solution to my own changing skin has become a business I'm passionate about growing, with new products, new ideas, and plenty more adventures ahead.

I've learned that life rarely goes according to plan. Sometimes it throws you a curveball, sometimes it hands you an opportunity you never saw coming, and sometimes you discover an entirely new passion when you least expect it.

I have no intention of slowing down to see what happens next.
